Galadriel
Galadriel (="Radiant Garland", referring to her hair)
Galadriel is Elrond's mother in law. She is descendant of the most noble houses of Aman.
Her mother used to call her 'Nerwen', which means 'Man-maid', because she was quite tall and very athletic.
Galadriel came with the second group of Noldor from Valinor to Middle-earth. She desired
to live as was her want and to possibly rule her own realm. For a long time she lived in Menegroth,
where she married Celeborn. In the Second Age, when Sauron gained power in the land of Eregion,
she went through the Mines of Moria, leading her supporters to Lórien. There she managed
to unite the Silvan Elves to defend their home. With the help of the Elvenring Nenya, which Celebrimbor had
given to her, she protected Lórien from destruction.
Galadriel had the power to look into others hearts and read their intentions there.
Frodo offered her the Ring of Power when the Fellowship made rest in Lórien. She declined knowing it would only turn her into a dark queen.
When the One Ring was destroyed, the power of Nenya dissolved as well. Shortly after the wedding of her
grandchild Arwen with King Elessar, the Lady of the Golden Wood (as Galadriel was called also) went to the Grey Havens and sailed in company of Gandalf, Elrond, Frodo and Bilbo to the Undying Lands.
