Ereinion / Gil-galad
Ereinion or Gil-galad (="Descendant of Kings" or "Star of Radiance")
King of Lindon. His given name was Ereinion, because his father was the High-king of the Noldor. Later he was called Gil-galad, because his armor was painted with white stars and covered in silver.
When the land of Beleriand was lost, Gil-galad became King of that part of the Noldor still staying in Middle-earth. Early he noticed that one of Morgoth's supporters regained power in the east and asked the Númenórean for help. Sauron then attacked Eregion and Gil-galad sent an army under the leadership of Elrond for defense, but they were too late and too weak to save it. They had great difficulties fighting Sauron during the following years. The situation only improved when the númenórean army led by Ciryatur intervened.
But Sauron again gathered strength and so Gil-galad and his friend Elendil decided to form the Last Alliance between Elves and Men. Their impressive army won the battle at Dagorlad, but seven years later, the two friends fell when bringing down Sauron together. Afterwards few elves were left who stayed in Lindon with Círdan.
Ereinion also had been given two of the Elvenrings, Narya and Vilya, by Celebrimbor and passed them on to Círdan and Elrond later.
